My Chemical Romance is a rock band from new jersey formed in the wake of 9/11. founded by artist/writer gerard way, the band existed initially from 2001-2013. with a string of platinum albums, the band became one of the most popular rock bands during the mid-2000s. the group reunited in 2019, and consists of gerard way, ray toro, frank iero, and mikey way.my chemical ari.
i found out about mcr because they were always mentioned as a similar artist to afi, flyleaf, and evanescence, which were bands that my cousin evan introduced me to through the video game rock band. the first song i ever heard by mcr was i'm not okay (i promise) and i quickly became enthralled. i've spent a good chunk of my life wanting to be a comic book artist and the fact that gerard is one, professionally, made me feel very seen and related to by someone who has no idea i exist! but they quickly became a favorite of mine. in middle school and high school i spent a lot of time listening to them and i, as many other mcr fans do, credit them with encouraging me to keep living and push through various difficult times i've had in life. i met frank at his solo show that i saw back in 2014 or 15, and i managed to see the whole band live when they were in town during the swarm tour :')
